Epley Formula for One Rep Max (1RM)
The Epley Formula is the most common method mentioned to estimate your 1RM based on a weight you can lift for multiple repetitions (submaximal lift):
1RM=Weight×(1+0.0333×Reps)
Where:
- Weight is the amount of weight you lifted.
- Reps is the number of repetitions you successfully performed with that weight.
Example Calculation
The text gives this example:
- Weight Lifted: 200 lbs
- Number of Reps: 5
1RM=200×(1+0.0333×5)1RM=200×(1+0.1665)1RM=200×1.1665
1RM=233 lbs
