MPG (Imperial) 42.37 MPG
L/100 km 6.67 L/100km

Mileage Breakdown

Your mileage comes directly from the distance traveled divided by the amount of fuel used.

Distance 300 km
÷
Fuel 20 L
=
Mileage 15.00 km/L

Optional Fuel Cost

Enter your fuel price to estimate how much the measured drive cost and your cost per distance unit.

Uses the mileage calculated above to estimate fuel needed.

Mileage Formula

The calculator converts the values to kilometers and litres internally so all fuel-economy units stay consistent.

km/L = Kilometers Driven ÷ Litres Used
MPG (US) = km/L × 2.35214583
L/100km = 100 ÷ km/L
300 km ÷ 20 L = 15.00 km/L

Real-World Mileage Tip

For a more reliable real-world mileage estimate, measure the actual distance traveled and fuel added over a complete refill cycle. Mileage can vary with traffic, driving style, vehicle condition, weather, load and road conditions.

Mileage Calculator – Calculate MPG, km/L & Fuel Cost

Use our Mileage Calculator to find out how efficiently your vehicle is using fuel. Enter the distance driven and the fuel used, and the calculator will instantly show your mileage in km/L, MPG (US), MPG (Imperial), and L/100km.

You can also enter your fuel price to estimate your total fuel cost and cost per kilometer or mile. If you are planning another trip, add the trip distance to see how much fuel you may need and what it could cost.

What Is a Mileage Calculator?

A mileage calculator measures your vehicle's fuel efficiency based on the distance you travel and the amount of fuel your vehicle uses.

For example, if your car travels 300 km using 20 litres of fuel, its mileage is:

300 ÷ 20 = 15 km/L

This means the vehicle can travel about 15 kilometers on one litre of fuel.

The calculator also converts this result into other common fuel-efficiency units so you can easily compare different vehicles or specifications.

How to Use the Mileage Calculator

Start by entering the distance your vehicle traveled. You can choose between kilometers and miles.

Next, enter how much fuel was used. The calculator supports litres, US gallons, and Imperial gallons.

Once the values are entered, your mileage is calculated automatically. You can also press Calculate Mileage to update the result.

If you know the fuel price, enter it in the optional fuel-cost section. The calculator will then estimate how much the drive cost and your fuel cost per kilometer or mile.

You can also enter a planned trip distance to estimate how much fuel the trip may require.

Mileage Formula

The basic formula for calculating mileage is:

Mileage = Distance Driven ÷ Fuel Used

For example:

Distance Driven = 450 km

Fuel Used = 30 L

So:

450 ÷ 30 = 15 km/L

The vehicle's fuel mileage is therefore 15 km/L.

What Does km/L Mean?

km/L means kilometers per litre.

It tells you how many kilometers your vehicle can travel using one litre of fuel.

For example:

10 km/L means the vehicle travels around 10 kilometers per litre.

15 km/L means it travels around 15 kilometers per litre.

In km/L, a higher number usually means better fuel efficiency.

What Is MPG?

MPG means miles per gallon. It is commonly used to measure fuel economy in countries where distance is measured in miles.

For example, a result of:

35 MPG

means the vehicle can travel approximately 35 miles using one gallon of fuel.

Our calculator shows both US MPG and Imperial MPG because a US gallon and an Imperial gallon are different sizes.

MPG US vs MPG Imperial

US gallons and Imperial gallons are not the same.

One US gallon is about 3.785 litres, while one Imperial gallon is about 4.546 litres.

Because an Imperial gallon is larger, the same vehicle will normally have a higher numerical MPG result when measured using Imperial gallons.

That is why the calculator shows the two MPG values separately.

What Does L/100km Mean?

L/100km means litres of fuel used to travel 100 kilometers.

Unlike km/L and MPG, a lower L/100km value means better fuel efficiency.

For example:

5 L/100km uses less fuel than 8 L/100km.

The formula is:

L/100km = 100 ÷ km/L

If your vehicle gets 15 km/L:

100 ÷ 15 = 6.67 L/100km

How to Calculate Fuel Cost

If you enter a fuel price, the calculator can estimate how much fuel cost during the measured drive.

The basic formula is:

Fuel Cost = Fuel Used × Fuel Price

For example, if you used:

20 litres

and fuel costs:

₨300 per litre

then:

20 × ₨300 = ₨6,000

Your estimated fuel cost would be ₨6,000.

How to Calculate Cost per Kilometer

Cost per kilometer helps you understand how much you spend on fuel for every kilometer you drive.

The formula is:

Cost per km = Total Fuel Cost ÷ Distance Driven

Using the same example:

₨6,000 ÷ 300 km = ₨20 per km

This can be useful for commuters, delivery drivers, taxi drivers, road trips, and general vehicle-cost tracking.

Estimate Fuel Needed for a Trip

The calculator can also estimate how much fuel you may need for an upcoming journey.

For example, if your vehicle gets:

15 km/L

and your planned trip is:

450 km

then:

450 ÷ 15 = 30 litres

You would need approximately 30 litres of fuel, assuming your vehicle achieves similar fuel economy during the trip.

If a fuel price is entered, the calculator can also estimate the fuel cost for that journey.

Why Your Real Mileage May Change

A vehicle's actual fuel mileage is not always the same on every trip. Fuel economy can change depending on traffic, driving speed, acceleration, road conditions, vehicle load, tire pressure, weather, air-conditioning use, and vehicle maintenance.

Because of this, a single short journey may not represent your vehicle's normal fuel efficiency.

For a more useful estimate, calculate mileage over several trips or across a full fuel refill cycle.

How to Measure Car Mileage More Accurately

One practical way to measure real-world mileage is to fill the fuel tank, reset your trip meter, drive normally, and then refill the tank later.

Record the distance traveled and the amount of fuel required to refill the tank.

You can then enter those two values into the calculator.

This method usually gives a more useful real-world estimate than relying only on an instant dashboard fuel-economy reading.

Is Higher Mileage Better?

When mileage is shown as km/L or MPG, a higher value generally means the vehicle travels farther using the same amount of fuel.

For example:

18 km/L is more fuel-efficient than 12 km/L.

However, when fuel consumption is shown as L/100km, the opposite is true.

5 L/100km is more efficient than 8 L/100km.
